In New Jersey a judge refused to freeze the assets of lottery winner Pedro Quezada who won a $338 million Powerball jackpot last spring. Quezada’s former live in girlfriend, Ines Sanchez, is suing him for a share of the huge jackpot. The couple lived together for 10 years and owned a bodega in Passaic New Jersey. Sanchez is the mother of one of Quezada’s children. Sanchez moved out of the Clifton home they shared last month’ Sanchez has a domestic violence claim against Quezada. Quezada took a lump sum payout of $211 million and after taxes received a check for $152 million.

A large portion of the money is gone. $57 million was sent to the Dominican Republic, Quezada gave away $5 million and $300,000 was spent on the purchase of the Clifton home. According to attorney Michael De Marco who is representing Sanchez $20 million cannot be located. De Marco told state Superior Court Chancery Judge Margaret Mary McVeigh “I think we’re kidding ourselves to say we’ll ever see any of that money again.” De Marco argued the court should freeze Quezada’s assets. De Marco told the judge that irreparable harm could be done if Quezada’s assets were not frozen. DeMarco told the court “This was a man and a woman in a relationship akin to marriage for 10 years, who have a child in common and lived with other children from other relationships.”
