The other player, Mindy Crandell, says she is not upset that her charitable gesture probably cost her the record jackpot and said “things are meant to be for a reason.” Crandell was in line at a Publix supermarket on May 18th and was tending her daughter when Mackenzie walked in fromt of her. Crandall told reporters “My 10-year-old said, ‘Mom, There’s a lady in front of us.’ I noticed that the lady was there. Didn’t pay a lot of mind to it.”

The person at the counter stopped Mackenzie to allow Crandell top claim her rightful spot in line. Crandell then told Mackenzie to “go ahead.” The move probably cost Crandell the record jackpot. Mackenzie purchased one Powerball ticket and left the store. Crandell said her family and friends teased her about letting Mackenzie cut in line and told her Mackenzie might win the jackpot. Crandell thought there was no way Mackenzie was going to win the jackpot. Crandell said “The joke was, that’s the lady that’s going to win it. I was like, ‘Yeah right. No one is going to win from little Zephyrhills.”
